Description

Chimes of Normandy Musical Clock
Circa 1900

A masterpiece of horology and woodworking, the Chimes of Normandy Clock exemplifies early 20th-century craftsmanship with intricate scroll-saw fretwork. Its dark-stained oak case showcases hand-carved panels in a cathedral-inspired form with three turrets featuring a rope motif, stunning fretwork design, a central clock face and delicately carved balconies. A bell tower spire adds grandeur with an enclosed cylinder musical mechanism resting within the base.

The iconic pattern gained historical prominence when an example, hand-carved by Ernestine Guerrero in 1937, was gifted to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Guerrero’s clock, crafted from salvaged grocery boxwood, is now displayed at the Roosevelt Library as a testament to resilience during the Great Depression.
